Machined Plastics Parts for the Food Industry
Turned or milled plastic parts are often used in food processing machinery.
Polymeric materials offer the following advantages:
- Light weight;
- Good mechanical properties;
- High chemical inertia;
and can successfully replace metals in a wide range of applications.
Thanks to these characteristics, machined plastic parts for food application are successfully employed in plants and machinery for the processing and packaging of, for example:
- Meat, fish and poultry;
- Dairy products;
- Baked goods and pastries.

Guarantee of Conformity: plastic materials suitable for contact with food
The use as raw materials, of semi-finished plastic materials that comply with FDA (Food and Drug Administration) specifications and current European regulations for MOCA (materials and objects intended to come into contact with food) is a fundamental prerequisite for the manufacture of parts intended for the food sector.
In this regard, Geartec relies on suppliers who are not only able to guarantee high-quality materials (free of imperfections and with low residual stresses) that meet safety and efficiency requirements, but also to ensure complete traceability of batches and controlled production processes that comply with EC Regulation 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practices (GMP).

Laboratory Testing and Safety of the Finished Parts
An additional level of safety, required by current legislation in the European Union, stipulates that laboratory tests must be carried out to simulate, under standardised conditions clearly defined by the Regulations, the effects of food contact on the finished product (and not only on raw materials or semi-finished products) and requires manufacturers to maintain controlled processes and comply with GMP.
In this regard, Geartec boasts partnerships with leading accredited laboratories capable of preparing and completing the appropriate tests required by the Regulations.

Geartec Declaration of Conformity
If requested at the time of ordering, Geartec can attach a declaration to the documentation accompanying the finished product, confirming and guaranteeing:
- FDA compliance for raw materials
- The suitability of semi-finished products and (following laboratory testing) finished parts to come into contact with food in accordance with European Regulations (Reg. EC 1935/2004, Reg. EU 10/2011).
- That the Geartec workshop operates in accordance with Reg. EC 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practices (GMP).

NSF Certification
Geartec is also listed by NSF (the American authority responsible for standardisation, testing and certification in the food industry).
In addition to verifying suitability and performing specific tests on materials and finished products, NSF conducts an annual audit to certify the compliance of Geartec’s workshop and production procedures.
