5-axis CNC plastic milling machine

The part shown in the video is a wheel which is mounted on a machine used in the pharmaceutical industry and presides over the handling of syringes.

The use of a 5-axis CNC milling center, specific tools for the plastic material and a specially prepared work cycle to produce the part made possible to overcome the critical issues of a complex geometry (the seats are not perpendicular to the axis of the wheel), extremely tight positioning tolerances (it is necessary to ensure positioning accuracy between the seats of less than 0.02mm) and an excellent surface finish (roughness within the seats of less than 0.6 µm).

The part was produced by milling using polyethylene terephthalate (PET) semi-finished products as raw material, a polymer that combines excellent mechanical properties with excellent machinability ensuring dimensional stability and excellent surface finish.
