Precision turning of plastic materials
The component examined in the video is a ring nut, used as a component for pumps in the chemical industry. For these sectors, the turning of plastic materials requires surface finishes with a low roughness value, specifically for the workpiece, not only in the central area but also on the front and rear faces.
The use of a CNC turning center for plastic materials equipped with a double spindle and a specially prepared machining cycle for turning plastic material allowed us to overcome these criticalities. This enabled us to obtain, with a single setup, the numerous front and perimeter holes specified in the design. Furthermore, the use of the double turret installed on the machine significantly reduced execution times compared to a traditional CNC turning process on plastic.
This component was manufactured through the turning of plastic materials, using semi-finished acetal resin (POM) products. This polymer ensures excellent machinability and allows for the production of precise parts with an excellent surface finish, typical of precision turning on plastic.
